Phil, founder and president of Higher Ed Strategies, LLC has more than 25 years of financial aid and enrollment management experience. As a consultant, Phil has worked with over 200 institutions including traditional colleges and universities and for-profit career and vocational schools.  His consulting practice focuses on helping institutions develop and implement customized admissions and financial aid strategies, training and professional development, and conducting enrollment management risk assessments.  Prior to starting the firm in 2003, Phil was employed by Northeastern University, Yale University and the University of Saint Joseph. Phil holds a M.Ed. in College Student Personnel from Northeastern University, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Higher Education Administration, and earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 1993.

Nitajsha D. Edwards

Director of Client Services

Nitajsha has more than 15 years of financial aid experience in both the private independent college and the for-profit market segments.  She has provided consulting services to more than 100 schools on a national basis. She began her career at National College and has held positions in financial aid at Saint Joseph College and Albertus Magnus College. 

Nitajsha provides advisory services that help institutions design and implement tactical plans that support student enrollment and compliance.  She is experienced in financial aid administration for non-traditional enrollment programs including non-standard and non-term programs. Nitjasha’s expertise is in Title IV compliance and financial aid operations.

Higher Ed Strategies, LLC (HES) has been providing affordable consulting services for more than 15 years.  We are a small firm dedicated to providing personalized service without reliance on boilerplate services. We pay close attention to each of our partner's mission, culture and and desired outcomes when customizing services.  We approach our work from the appreciative and believe that our services must ultimately help not hinder an institution's people or position.

Our areas of specialty are admissions/recruitment and financial aid.  The average length of engagement varies depending on the type of consulting services delivered. HES has worked with hundreds of colleges, universities, state agencies and service firms over the years providing a variety of services supporting each institution's enrollment management effort.

We have short-term and long term partners.  Most of our long-term partners have asked us to take on new projects or assist in monitoring progress.  Our pricing structures make our professional consulting services affordable and without a long-term expensive commitment.  Our firm is well suited for the cost-sensitive institution.

Our firm's leadership includes Phil Malinoski, President, and Nitajsha Edwards, Director of Client Services.  When necessary we use additional consulting associates to help bring added levels of expertise to the table to best meet the needs of our partners.  Most of our engagements originate through word of mouth recommendations.  Because of our size, we do not accept all potential engagements as we want to ensure ample working and support time for each of our partners.

Phil and Nitajsha have more than 40 years of combined admissions and financial aid experience and have worked with more than 200 institutions. Phil started Higher Ed Strategies in 2004, with Nitajsha joining the firm shortly thereafter.  They are committed to keeping the firm positioned in a way that brings innovative and effective responses to the many challenges colleges and universities face in today’s highly competitive and increasing regulatory environment.
